A teacher’s passion for Christ is giving South African kids a passion for the future!

Ma'am Khumalo

Ma’am Khumalo and her husband are teachers at The Fold Academy.  She says, “The best thing about working at The Fold Academy is that The Word of God is taught every day.  As teachers, we get to share The Word both in school assembly and bible study.”  This is foundational for the children but also helps the teachers grow in their Christian life as well.

She also says, “The Fold is providing less privileged children an opportunity to live in a normal home and receive love and care, food, clothing and most importantly an excellent education that very few can afford.”  “They also get the opportunity to know about God which molds their behavior as they are always reminded of what The Word of God says.”

“As a teacher, the smaller class size helps us identify those learners who need extra help.”  Ma’am Khumalo has often tutored children outside of school hours in an effort to help them succeed.  She told us “One girl started grade 3 in January unable to speak or understand English.  She didn’t even know her letters or sounds.  By October she was able to read and participate in class in English! She is beginning to construct sentences and even do some creative writing.”

Mr. & Mrs. Khumalo

Ma’am Khumalo has seen such a difference since she first started working at The Fold Academy.  She says, “I discovered that the learners were filled with so much anger due to their situations back at home.  When they returned from school holidays they would have lost so much weight and their behavior changed because the Bible was not taught in their homes.”  “Once they return to The Fold, we can not only be their teachers, but parent them as well and teach them how God’s Word says we should live. Because they receive the Word of God every day, you see their anger replaced with smiles.”

Ma’am Khumalo will tell you that in South Africa, countless children feel hopeless. They live in extreme poverty, deal with horrific abuse, and have limited access to education.

That is why God has called us to rescue kids, offer shelter, and provide a biblically based education, resulting in 35 vulnerable children having access to a safe home, a record setting school, and an introduction to Jesus, giving them hope for today and eternity.

All that we do wouldn’t be possible without you. We need your help! Your gift of $35 a month can sponsor a child - giving them the safety, love and education they need so they can focus on healing, and dream of their future . . . a future of hope through Jesus Christ.

We know you care about what God cares about. He has called us all to care for the least of these - join us today. Ma'am Khumalo, her students, and future students, will thank you!

PS -Please don’t be quick to pass over this message - a child is counting on your generous heart.
